Unfortunate Worship
Worship is a key theme throughout the bible. Whether you read the historical books of the old testament of the epistles of the new testament; whether you read the psalms in the OT or even the Revelation of the NT you cannot escape the theme of worship. Gid is God and I have learned two valuable lessons on worship recently (I should have known them before).
1) We dont worship God because of what He does for us. That's only a tiny bit of the whole phenomena, for even if God were not do a thing for us, and even should he seem far away God is still God and deserves worship. God is not God because of hat He does, He is inherently God and thus worthy of all our worship. Thats a humbling truth and negates my feeling like worshiping or not. A correct realisation of who God who is will automatically demand worship n any and every circumstance.
2) God has set ways in which we are to worship Him. If we look at creation, we will learn an awesome truth. God is a God of order. He has order in all He does... and thus even in how man approaches Him there is order. Sure when Jesus died on the cross the temple veil was ripped in to and this signified direct access for a believer to the very throne of heaven. Yet there is a way in which we approach God.
In the OT the Jews had the tabernacle and within the tabernacle system there was only one way a high preist could enter the Holiest Place. He would first go through the outer court of confessing His own sin.. then the holy place and then to the Holist oh Holies. There was an order... you were to get right with God before being able to meet Him face to face.
In our modern world of love and grace, it is saddening that we have lost that reverence for God. Our churches seem to be filled with people who want to be Wow'ed by God before they can consider getting right with Him.... when did this arrogance creep in? Have we taken the grace of God that grants us access to the Father and cheapened the whole thing by now demanding God to woo us emotionally and wow our minds and only then we will consider Him an His ways?
What has gone wrong? Let's come back to a heart of worship.
