A saga of stumbling blocks and foolishness.

If God loves why will He not heal my wife’s cancer? If God loves why would allow my husband to be laid off for so long? If God loves He’d help me make it through this exam.

This God thing doesn’t make sense! I have yet to come across a valid water tight argument for the case of God!! Can you prove the resurrection? Biblical exclusivity versus post-modern pluralism, I see more sense in the latter show me why the former is better!!

These are just some samples of some statements that I have come across in the 17 years I have walked with Jesus. The world around is full of these and many more like these and the Church is pressured to come up with answers. As I turn on God tv and as I browse through articles of Church growth and testimonies I see many healers and healings around the world. It strikes me there are many who come to God seeking a sign, healing, providence etc. I find that there are many churches and individuals who cater to that sector of people.

I also find many books and speakers in the domain of apologetics. They eloquently, intellectually and methodically argue for the existence of God and not just His existence but even the exclusivity of the God of the bible. I find many people seeking intellectual answers and a host of apologists who are there to have answer for every questioning path that one can take.

While I commend the incredible work done I am also challenged that Paul prayed and healed people, and Paul argued eloquently with those around for the case of Christ. Yet Paul writes to the Church in Corinth and says “Jews demand miraculous signs and Greeks look for wisdom but we preach Christ crucified: a stumbling block to the Jews and foolishness to the Greeks, but to those whom God has called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God and the wisdom of God.” It reminds me that no amount of miracles and apologetics will ever be as powerful as the ‘weakness and foolishness’ of a crucified saviour king.
